Hovnatanyan Ruben (1940-1999) is the descendant of Hovnatanian dynasty of painters. He was born in the family of constructor. In 1965 he graduated with honor from Yerevan State Institute of Fineart and since student years he had taken part in different republican and all-union exhibitions.
In 1976 he was awarded with state prize of Armenia for compositional art pieces: “Eternal Union”, “The constructors of my city”, “Colleagues” “Victory day”.
The scope of themes are very different- still-lifes, portraits, landscapes, compositions and nudes in interior.
Interest towards monumental art had taken a great part in the art life of the painter. In 1970-1982 together with R.Atoyan, A. Arakelyan, M. Gyurjinyan, T. Smbatian and others were created monumental artworks in Jermouk( 250m), Stepanavan(180), Gyumri(500m), Sevan(200m).
Since 1992 he started creating with Bible motives: Secret Night, Kiss of Jude…
Many personal and group exhibitions in USA, Portugal, Greece, Moscow, as well as personal collections of private collectors have brought him success and acknowledgement in his motherland and abroad.
Works of Hovnatanyan Ruben are displayed in the National Museum of Armenia. |
